How to Use the Social Media Content Calendar Template
Our template includes two separate calendar views to give you flexibility in planning:
Monthly Calendar – A high-level view of your content plan for the entire month.
Weekly Calendar – A more detailed breakdown, helping you organize posts by date, time, content type, and approvals.
To help you get started, we’ve included example calendars filled with sample content so you can see how to best utilize the template.
Setting Up the Monthly Calendar
Before using the Monthly Calendar, you’ll need to customize it to fit your needs. Follow these steps:
Click on one of the grey drop-down menus in the sheet.
Select the Edit button to modify the drop-down options.
You can rename the categories, change colors, add new options, or delete existing ones.
If you’d like, you can also allow multiple selections per cell.
When you're done, press “Done” and then “Apply to all” to finalize your settings.
If you’d like to add more rows to each week, simply click on the row number, then right-click and select either “Insert 1 row above” or “Insert 1 row below” to add additional rows.

Click on a date and select the type of post you’d like to publish from your custom drop-down menu.
This helps you visualize your social media strategy at a glance.
Need to reset a drop-down menu? Click on the cell containing the menu (not the drop-down itself) and press Delete on your keyboard.
Setting Up the Weekly Calendar
The Weekly Calendar provides a more detailed breakdown of your social media content plan. While there are multiple columns in this calendar, the ones you’ll need to edit for setup are:
Type of Post – This should match the same drop-down options as your Monthly Calendar.
Campaign – Organize posts by marketing campaigns for better tracking.
Post Creator – Assign who is responsible for creating the content.
Approved By – Keep track of approvals before posts go live.

To set up your drop-down menus, follow these steps:

Tag the marketing campaign the post belongs to for better organization.
Assign a post creator to clarify responsibility for content development.
Mark posts for review or approval to streamline collaboration and prevent bottlenecks.
Indicate who approved the post to maintain a clear approval workflow.
Track post performance with automated charts for quick insights.
Customizing the Google Sheet to Match Your Branding
Your content calendar should reflect your brand’s identity. Here’s how you can customize it:
Change Gridline
Colors
Click the small box at the top-left corner of the sheet to select all cells.
Click the Borders button in the toolbar.
Choose a border style (solid, dashed, double) and a color that matches your brand.
Apply borders to the entire sheet or
specific sectons.
Change Cell
Colors
Select the cells you want to edit.
Click the Fill Color button in the toolbar.
Choose a color that aligns with your brand theme.
Replace The Elevate
Logo with Your Own
and press Delete.
Click the cell containing the Elevate logo
Click Insert > Image > Insert image in cell.
Upload your company’s logo.
